WINTER CLOSURES

Winter Closures for Fix Routes and Alternate Routes

Expect Delays: Plan ahead and take an earlier trip to make sure you arrive on time. Remember – if conditions are slowing traffic, buses will be delayed.

During winter storm events it may be necessary to close portions of our fixed routes to bus service when in the judgment of the District the route is no longer acceptable for safe and efficient buses to travel the route or portions of the route will be closed.  The following is a list of pre-determine route closures and the alternate routes for bus operations.

Fix Routes Mainline # 1and # 2

Portions of Mainline # 1 and # 2 fix routes will be closed to bus operations when determined by the District to be impassable for bus services. Dahlia Avenue, Almond Street and Daggett Street are streets during winter storm events that require restricted service.  During the closure buses will use Campus Drive in and out to the OIT bus stop. Bus stops for Main Line # 1 will be closed at Almond Street and Dahlia Street. Bus stops for Main Line # 2 will be closed along Daggett Avenue at Mountain View Drive, Shallock Avenue and Clairmont Drive. Temporary bus stops for both Main Line #1 and Main Line #2 will be available at the intersection of Campus Drive and Dahlia Street and Campus Drive and Daggett Street.

Fix Routes Feeder 3/5

3rd Street from Main Street to California Ave will be closed to bus operations when determined by the District to be to dangerous bus service.  During the closure buses will use Conger Avenue to California Avenue to continue service on the route.  The bus stop on 3rd Street at Jefferson Street will be closed.  If California becomes too narrow due to snow removal we will switch out the normal bus used on the route and use the dial-a-ride bus as it has a narrow width.

Fix Route Feeder 4/6

From Foot-Hills Boulevard at Homedale Avenue down Homedale to Glenridge Avenue up Glenridge Avenue to Springcrest Way and Springcrest Way to Patterson Avenue will be closed to bus operations when determine by the District to be impassable to bus services.  Bus Stops at Homedale Drive and Northwood Court, Homedale Drive and Glenridge Way, and Glenridge Way and Springcrest Way will be closed. A temporary bus stop will be available at the top of Homedale Drive at Foothills Boulevard and the current stop at Patterson Street and Springcrest Way.
Snow? Wind? Ice? Check out these smart riding tips
When the winter season is upon us. Here are some tips that can help make your ride more comfortable.

Riding the bus

Take an earlier trip

Buses move only as quickly as traffic allows. If there is snow or ice, consider taking an earlier bus to ensure that you arrive at your destination on time.

Play it safe
Buses may slide on snow as they approach the curb. Stay on the curb until the bus comes to a complete stop.

Be visible
Especially on dark winter mornings, it’s important that you make yourself visible to an approaching bus. Wear light-color clothing. Signal your presence with a small blinker light or flashlight.

Step carefully

Bus steps become slippery from snow. Kick the snow from your shoes before stepping on the bus. Use the handrails and take your time.

Dress warmly
Although the ride will be warm, your trip to and from the bus stop may not be. Put on an extra layer – even a short wait at your stop can be dangerous if you’re not dressed for the weather. If the temperature on your bus isn't right, please tell your driver so the problem can be fixed or reported to repair staff.

Don’t blame the driver

If your bus is late, remember that your driver is doing his or her best to make sure you arrive at your destination despite bad road conditions.
